To capture the playful mood, I decided to encase hula hoops into my designs. I chose to use both woven and jersey fabrics to not only create a variety of textures, but to also replicate the clothing my family and I used to wear growing up. Out of convenience, my mom usually dressed me and my sister in matching sets, which inspired me to design monochromatic outfits. The hula hoops allowed me to construct curved, rounded volumes that are reminiscence of the playground structure. And by adding in rice into the tubes, the wearer is able to create a sound as they walk. As for details, marbles appear as buttons or little accents to further the theme of colorful objects, rounded shapes, and childhood memories.
