ORNAMENTED
The requirement for this studio class project was to start our research based off of the fashion of Dynastic China. Therefore, I chose to look into the Chinese court robes of the Qing Dynasty. Slits along the side of these robes were a common theme for both man and woman but the wives of court members wore fringe on their vests.
Because I was aiming for a gender fluid collection, I chose to combine the silhouette of the male dragon robe and the details of the fringed vest.
As for the color scheme, I took the vibrant hues and high contrast of the late Chinese photographer and poet, Ren Hang's work. I found that his work is relevant to my concept because the nudity of his subjects implied that he views humans as one and didn't want to define gender as two different identities.
