FRAMELESS
My class was assigned to create a garment based off of the works of Cristobal Balenciaga and Rei Kawakubo. I started off with the silhouette of Balenciaga's fitted jackets with a slim front and a voluminous back. As for Rei Kawakubo, her disregard of the natural human body inspired me to go for an engulfing silhouette and add the illusion of practical sleeves. I intended to make the wearer frameless by eliminating the shoulders and adding significant volume. The back topstitch comes from a tapestry coat I found in Antwerp. The word tapestry is significant to me because that was the name of the street where my most favorite house was. And coincidentally, ту mother loved to cover all of the hardwood floors with tapestry rugs. However, because I'm going for a modern look, I had to modify the tapestry pattern into its simplest form.
